aikido gi has to be strong

I think you appreciate just how much force and energy is involved with aikido. It is a sport where things move fast and a lot of strength and push or pull comes into play at each encounter. So the aikido gi you choose has to be strong and able to stand the forces applied to it. Just think about a very common aikido throw, for a minute. The opponent comes running at you from the front, you judge his speed and as he is about to grasp your gi you move so that he continues to move forward, but away from you. Imagine the fierce pull on the front of your uniform that comes from this encounter. So a gi must be made of strong material and sturdy thread if it is to survive a good length of time int he sport.
