I had always had to work hard in school. Much harder than my peers, it seemed. However, with hard work and dedication, I graduated and went on to college. In meeting with my new guidance counselor, he suggested that I have some testing done. It turns out I have a learning disability! No wonder things were such a struggle. He connected me with a tutoring service that gave me tools specific to my challenges. My tutor was familiar with my learning disability and knew what to do to help me. She taught me how to study effectively and how to compensate for my weaknesses. She also arranged with my professors to allow me to record their lectures instead of relying on written notes. I’m so glad I was able to get the help I needed to be successful in college.
