The Diverse Reputation Of Dogs
The dog’s reputation for saving the lives of men has been embellished in mythology by a number of ‘medical’ superstitions. These attribute almost every part of the dog’s body like a Boston Terrier as a cure for one ailment or another. Some of the most unusual come from China, for example: The hair of the dog is used after being burnt to ashes to cure fevers, and also for the cure of a bite to (be) put on damaged tissue.
In parts of Great Britain, an old cure for a cough required a hair from the ill person’s head to be placed between two slices of buttered bread and for the sandwich to be given to the dog. Presumably, it was believed that the cough would then transfer itself to the dog.
