I run a website for pet snake enthusiasts and one of the most common questions in my forum is what is the best snake for beginners.  I mean, you don’t want to start out with a huge snake like a Burmese python or a reticulated python that can be dangerous if you don’t know how to properly care for it.  So I usually recommend that people either get a corn snake if they want a small snake or a ball python if they’d like something that is easy to handle, and doesn’t require fancy terrariums to care for.   A regular 20 gallon tank is usually sufficient for a ball python.  The only thing is they can be a little bit picky when it comes to feeding time but most people learn how to feed their pet snake pretty quickly.
