Link bait consists of contests, viral content, and giveaways to get people to link you your site and spread the word to their social networks. Link bait is very hard to do consistently well, so that’s why all web sites are encouraged to have a blog or a forum to generate new content for the site and hopefully people will link to interesting topics. Finally there is the press release, blog post, and articles that are written and then sent out to directories, forums, and other places that will run the information with a link to link back to the website.  Link building is hard and time consuming, but well worth it when you see the rise in rankings.
