One of my highlights when I traveled to Thailand a few years ago, was being able to have so many Thai massages. When I stayed in Bangkok, they were particularly cheap. I ended up having one every day. For a backpacker, this was the closest thing I got to a spa experience!

Thai massage reminded me a bit of shiatsu, which I’ve studied. Some of the stretches were very similar, and the Thais also seemed to use the meridians. I love that type of massage, so it was great. The only problem I had was because at he end, they pull the joints of your toes, to help release blocked energy. The first couple of times it felt great, but because I was having so many massages, my toes got a bit sore. But that’s not a bad problem to have – too many massages!

So, what can a Thai massage do for you? Well, it’s great for circulation. It really helps release deep stresses in the body, and its a lot gentler than a deep tissue massage – sore toes notwithstanding. The stretches felt excellent. They are passive stretches, so its not like exercise. But they really help open up the joints, especially in the back, pelvic area, and shoulders.

With a Thai massage, you can really discover parts of your body you almost forgot. I highly recommend it!
